Many users reported that uTorrent disk overloaded error pops up when the downloading speed reaches 4–5 MB/s. What causes uTorrent disk cache overloaded? One of the most common reasons is the UTorrent download way is non-sequential.

If the file pre-allocation feature is disabled, your HDD will be forced to write too much data at the same time in the uTorrent disk overloaded error. In addition, this error can occur when downloading multiple large files at one time.

After investigating lots of user reports and posts, we explore some effective troubleshooting methods. Now, let’s see how to fix uTorrent disk overloaded.

Fix 1. Enable the Pre-allocate All Files Feature

The non-sequential way your uTorrent download and update is the main reason for the uTorrent disk overloaded error. This is because your HDD will be forced to read and write hundreds of random parts at the same time.

To fix this issue, you can try enabling the file pre-allocation feature. Here’s are detailed steps:

Step 1. Launch your uTorrent client and navigate to the toolbar at the top.

Step 2. Click on the Options section and select Preferences from the drop-down menu.

Step 3. Select the General section from the left pane, and then tick the checkbox for Pre-allocate all files under When Downloading from the right side.

Step 4. Click on Apply to execute this operation.

Now, you can restart your uTorrent client and check if uTorrent disk cache overloaded error is fixed or not.

Fix 2. Turn the Diskio.use_partfile to False

The turned-on partfile is a known reason for uTorrent disk overloaded as mentioned above. To fix this error, you can set the diskio.use_partfile to false. For that:

Step 1. Navigate to the Preferences menu through the above method.

Step 2. In the Preferences menu, go to the Advanced tab from the left pane.

Step 3. Go to the Filter section, and then paste the diskio.use_partfile text and hit Enter to find its value.

Step 4. Then you can find the correct name, double click it and change its value from True to False.

Step 5. Click on the Apply button to save the changes.

If this method fails to fix the disk overloaded uTorrent error, move on to the next solutions.

Fix 3. Extend the Base Cache Size

Some users reported that they encountered the disk overloaded uTorrent error when trying to download many large files at the same time. This is because the issue can be caused by the insufficient base cache.

Here you can extend the base cache to fix the error:

Step 1. Open the Preferences menu again and navigate to the Advanced section from the left pane.

Step 2. Go to the Disk Cache tab and select the checkbox that’s associated with Override automatic cache size and specify the size manually.

Step 3. Change the Disk Cache value from to 512 or 1024 MB/s, and then click on the Apply button to save the changes

Fix 4. Install the Latest uTorrent Version

The uTorrent disk overloaded error often occurs on the old version like uTorrent 3.1.3. So, we recommend that you update to the latest uTorrent client, which can deal with disk usage more effectively. You can uninstall the previous uTorrent through the Program and Features window and then click here to download the latest uTorrent and install it on your PC.
